"[KSI] started in [making videos] in Year 9... but I didn't know he did it then, he didn't tell anyone, he didn't have face cam or anything and he was getting like 50 views. So it's like, I didn't see it... I found out in Year 11 or something like that and then Year 12, it kinda became more of like a... a few people in school realised KSI's doing that YouTube thing."

Simon also spoke on how KSI was a "nerdy," but funny, character back in school. During this time, the two would get into fights. This sparked discussion on the KSI subreddit, and Olajide said they would squabble over "random sh*t".

In another video with his parents, KSI said he wished he caused more trouble at school and his mother brought up a specific story about his books ending up in a canal.

"I left my bag outside, for some odd reason, in a public area and some kids stole it and chucked it in a canal. ('And the teacher thought that you drowned, because black men can't swim', said KSI's mother with laughter.)"
