YouTube personality Armon Wiggins is trending in the headlines after he shared his opinion about singer Tyla through social media. Wiggins is mostly known as the host of his show, which has featured multiple guests over the years, including Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj.
Wiggins posted a statement through his official page on X (formerly Twitter) on September 12, 2024, and wrote:
"Hey I don't think I like Tyla's personality I think someone needs to check her cus she doesn't understand American Culture at all..she almost gives off entitled or uppity African idk how to explain it but it's very off putting and it's almost like she expects people to just fall to her feet."
Notably, Armon Wiggins' tweet came after Tyla's speech at the recent MTV Video Music Awards. Tyla went on stage to accept the Best Afrobeats Artist for her song Water, and she delivered a speech where she said:
"I come from South Africa. I represent amapiano. I represent my culture, and I just want to shout out [to] all the Afrobeats artists in this category with me."
Tyla also stated that the response to her single proves that "African music can be pop music," adding that African artists can be included among Afrobeats. She further stated:
"It's a thing, and even though Afrobeats has run things and has opened so many doors for us, African music is so diverse. It's more than just Afrobeats."
While Tyla has not responded to Armon's tweet until now, she changed her bio on X to "Entitled uppity African." Wiggins also shared a screenshot of the bio through his Instagram page and wrote:
"Chile… how do I always end up in it! Everybody gone hate me."
