On Sunday, April 20, 2025, Sharpe faced a lawsuit by a young woman whose real identity is unknown and, therefore, is named Jane Doe as a pseudonym.

In the lawsuit filed by Tony Buzbee, Doe claimed that she met Shannon Sharpe in 2023 in a gym in New York, and the two started dating each other. Initially, the relationship was consensual; however, later, Sharpe allegedly recorded their s*xual activities and became violent with the then 19-year-old woman.

In the 13-page civil lawsuit complaint filed in a Nevada state court, the young woman mentioned two incidents—October 2024 and January 2025—when Sharpe allegedly r*ped her. In response, Sharpe has released an Instagram video on his official Instagram account where he has denied all allegations.

In the video message, Shannon Sharpe suggested that he will "defend" himself and will remain transparent in this case. In addition, Sharpe claimed that Tony Buzbee would possibly set him up by releasing videos that are not in his favor.

"This is a shakedown. I'm going to be open, transparent and defend myself because this isn't right... This is all being orchestrated by Tony Buzbee. I believe he is going to release a 30-second clip of a sex tape that tries to make me look guilty and plays into every stereotype you can possibly imagine," Sharpe said.

The young woman is seeking $50 million in damages; however, no legal proceedings have been initiated, and no further update has been given.
