On Wednesday, April 23, DJ Akademiks posted an alleged audio clip of Shannon Sharpe in conversation with a woman on X. In the 1 1/2 minute audio, the former NFL player was heard allegedly making plans to meet with the woman in LA and go out with her.
When the woman said that going out sounded like a good idea since she wasn't interested in getting choked, Sharpe replied with:
"I might choke you in public. Big black guy choking small white woman."

Shannon Sharpe was sued in a $50 million assault lawsuit
The alleged audio clip DJ Akademiks shared on X came after Shannon Sharpe was named as the defendant in a s*xual assault lawsuit filed in Nevada earlier in April.
The woman behind the suit, who has chosen to remain anonymous at the moment, has alleged that the Club Shay Shay owner used his fame to "manipulate, control, subjugate, and violate women."
Per the legal documents, the plaintiff claimed to have first met Shannon in 2023, with the woman being 19 at the time. They reportedly met in an LA gym and had a "rocky consensual relationship".
The complaint further added:
"After many months of manipulating and controlling Plaintiff — a woman more than thirty years younger than he — and repeatedly threatening to brutally choke and violently slap her, Sharpe refused to accept the answer no and raped Plaintiff, despite her sobbing and repeated screams of 'no'."
She also alleged that the couple had a relationship nearly 2 years long, during which Sharpe was "aggressive" towards her and allegedly r*ped her.
Per Jane Doe, Shannon Sharpe r*ped her as recently as January 2025. She added that the podcaster insisted on recording some of their s*xual encounters, at times even without her knowledge or consent. The videos were later shared with his "friends and associates".
Shannon Sharpe has called the lawsuit a "shakedown"
Responding to the allegations Shannon Sharpe faced in the new s*xual assault, the podcaster uploaded a video from his X handle, saying:
"This is a shakedown. I'm gonna be open, transparent, and defend myself, because this isn't right. This is all being orchestrated by Tony Buzbee, who has targeted Jay-Z."
Sharpe then went on to say that Buzbee, who was behind this lawsuit, was going to release a clip of a s*x tape that makes him look guilty, playing into every stereotype "you could possibly imagine," adding:
"Hey, Tony, instead of releasing your edit, put the whole video out. I don't have it, or I would myself."
He continued that Buzbee was trying to manipulate the media, then revealed that the suit was reportedly filed by a "Gabbi," who was an OnlyFans model.
According to the BBC, Shannon Sharpe has 4 million subscribers on his podcast, Club Shay Shay, and is reportedly in negotiations for a $100 million deal for his network of shows.
