When diagnosed with a small cancerous tumor in her left breast, she recalled the struggle of her father with the disease. She wrote:

“I sat there in a daze, rubbing my neck. I immediately thought of my father, all those times taking him to chemo and how much cancer took from him. I had been through all of this stuff in life getting to be 70 years old, and now I’m gonna get cancer?”

Knowles also mentioned how her daughters and bonus daughter, Kelly Rowland, and her niece, Angie Beyince, became her strength. Tina mentioned how Beyoncé acted upon learning it:

“took it well, staying positive, and I could already feel her mind racing, focusing on this as a task to tackle with precision.”

She further revealed how her daughter actively took part in the consultations with the doctor.

When former hair stylist first announced Matriarch last year, many were eager for its release and anticipated revelations about the Knowles family. The book, which centered around the life of Tina, offered people a window to look into her life. One of the shocking disclosures was about her cancer.

Tina Knowles, now 71, didn't want to share about this incident with the public, but decided to open up to raise awareness. In an exclusive interview with People Magazine, the mother of two said:

"I struggled with whether I would share that journey [in the book] because I'm very private. But I decided to share it because I think it's a lot of lessons in it for other women."

She further said,

"And I think as women, sometimes we get so busy and we get so wrapped up and running around, but you must go get your test. Because if I had not gotten my test early, I mean, I shudder to think what could have happened to me."

She feels blessed to be cancer-free and found it at an early stage. However, the author of Matriarch emphasized the importance of timely screenings. She said that had she not missed her mammograms, she could have found it even earlier at stage zero.
