Healing Appalachia, the nonprofit music festival that raises funds and awareness for substance use recovery efforts across the Appalachian region, will take place September 19-20 this year. For the first time in five years, the festival is moving to Eastern Kentucky from West Virginia. The recovery-based music event announced its 2025 co-headliners on April 21 through an Instagram post.
As usual, country music icon Tyler Childers, co-founder of Healing Appalachia, will take the stage. This year's bill also features Chris Stapleton, another well-known roots musician, as a co-headliner. Both singers are Kentucky-born, making the lineup memorable. While the complete list of musicians is yet to come, the tickets are available.
With early bird pricing, one adult ticket costs $199, and the child pass is available for $25 until June 3. After that, they will cost $249 and $35, respectively. The VIP ticket with some exclusive perks is listed for $700.
More details about Healing Appalachia
The music concert is organized to connect and build communities of recovery and healing in the Appalachia region and beyond. The proceeds go into the efforts to combat opioid addiction. The event is managed by the nonprofit Hope in the Hills, which was formed in 2016 when 26 people lost their lives in West Virginia due to overdose.
Tyler Childers, with his manager, Ian Thornton, founded Healing Appalachia as a community-based initiative to fight the pressing problem of opioid consumption in the region. The official website describes the event in the following words:
"Healing Appalachia – where music, community, and hope come together to combat the opioid crisis in our Appalachian region."
The description continues:
Through our annual music festival and outreach initiatives, we are dedicated to raising awareness, providing vital resources, and funding programs that focus on prevention, recovery, and support for those affected by substance abuse."
The festival debuted in 2018, and at every event, some top musicians in the country music scene share the stage with the emerging voices. The festival has partnered with some organizations with the same vision and provides essential support to people in need.
Held in West Virginia till now, the 2025 event will take place in Kentucky. Tyler Childers and Chris Stapleton will lead the stage. Both singers belong to the same hometown and have been vocal about the recovery efforts. A report of VARIETY published the statement of Ian Thornton, the co-founder of the festival, which reads:
"Moving Healing Appalachia to Kentucky is special for a lot of reasons. It exemplifies the growth of something that started as an idea on how we could create change in a world that we were watching destroy our friends and families firsthand — starting at home in WV with 1500 people, to becoming this movement that it is today and being able to start its own travels through Appalachia."
The debut festival saw an audience of 2500, which rose to 21000 last year, marking the festival's increasing popularity. Although this year's full lineup is yet to come, previous events were graced by names like:
- My Morning Jacket
- Sierra Ferrell
- Shooter Jennings
- S.G. Goodman
- Hiss Golden Messenger
- Jason Isbell
- Margo Price
- Gov't Mule
- Charles Wesley Godwin
- Trey Anastasio of Phish
