Akademiks shared a screenshot of his Instagram DMs with Bri, where she said she didn’t know who the former NFL player was and that she wasn’t the one suing Sharpe for $50 million.

He also posted a 50-second clip of Shannon Sharpe talking about Sky Bri on his podcast Nightcap with Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson.

In the clip, Shannon asks Johnson if he knows who Sky Bri is. When the latter claims that he doesn't, the podcaster goes on to describe the OnlyFans model, saying:

"She a little something something. You know she might be famous for vertical activity... she got an all-in fan, you know, huh? Back in the day, she could have been on my team."

While the exact date of Shannon Sharpe's Sky Bri comment remains uncertain, it has likely happened before the podcaster's legal troubles started. Once the video clip went viral, it also led to critics accusing Sharpe of demeaning OnlyFans models, Yahoo! Entertainment reports.

Soon after Shannon Sharpe's comment about Sky Bri went viral, the podcaster announced that he would step away from his role on ESPN, issuing a statement reading:

"At this juncture, I am electing to step aside temporarily from my ESPN duties. I will be devoting this time to my family, and responding to and dealing with these false and disruptive allegations set against me. I plan to return to ESPN at the start of the NFL preseason."

According to CNN Sports, Shannon Sharpe plays a significant part in ESPN's morning debate show, First Take. Sharpe's statement was followed by ESPN's own statement, which read:

"This is a serious situation, and we agree with Shannon’s decision to step away."

The lawsuit against Shannon Sharpe was filed in a Las Vegas district court earlier in April, accusing the Club Shay Shay owner of "manipulating and controlling" the victim during a nearly 2-year period.

Per the lawsuit, their consensual relationship started in 2023, when the woman, who identifies as Jane Doe, was 20 years old.

The civil complaint alleges that Sharpe "violently s*xually assaulted and anally r*ped plaintiff" in October 2024 and again in January 2025, "blatantly ignoring her requests for him to stop."

The suit adds:

"After many months of manipulating and controlling Plaintiff — a woman more than thirty years younger than he — and repeatedly threatening to brutally choke and violently slap her, Sharpe refused to accept the answer no and raped Plaintiff, despite her sobbing and repeated screams of ‘no.’"

In response to Jane Doe's assault lawsuit, Sharpe's attorney, Lanny J. Davis, has said that the woman is attempting to blackmail his client. Davis added that Shannon "looks forward to vindication through due process and a judgment based on the facts and the law."
