American singer-songwriter SZA has set a new record as the longest-running top 10 album by a female artist in Billboard 200 history. According to Hip-Hop Vibe, her 2022 sophomore album, SOS, has broken the Billboard 200 chart record with an 85-week streak.

Born Solána Imani Rowe, the artist has become a prominent figure in the R&B music world. Her second studio album, SOS, was released on December 9, 2022. Featuring a total of 23 tracks, the album spans over an hour in runtime.

Exploring themes of heartbreak, self-reclamation, rage, and vulnerability, SOS quickly became a fan favorite. It also featured guest appearances from artists such as Don Toliver, Travis Scott, Phoebe Bridgers, and the late Ol' Dirty Bastard. The album's success extended to the Grammy Awards, where it won in three categories: Best R&B Song, Best Progressive R&B Album, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

SZA creates Billboard 200 history with SOS

Even after three years of its release, SOS continues to make history. As per Hip-Hop Vibe, the album has now claimed the title for the longest-running top 10 album by a female artist on the Billboard 200 chart. This feat surpasses the previous record held by 21, the 2011 sophomore album by English singer-songwriter Adele.

Notably, the 35-year-old artist also surpassed the late Michael Jackson in March with this feat. His iconic album Thriller had held the record for the longest-running top 10 album by a Black artist in Billboard 200 history.

SOS has also spent 12 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, an achievement that reportedly no other R&B album by a woman artist had reached in nearly four decades. In December 2024, the artist released the deluxe version of SOS, titled Lana, which included 19 brand-new songs.

Then, in February 2025, to celebrate her Super Bowl Halftime Show performance alongside Kendrick Lamar, four new songs were added to the album, including 30 for 30 with Kendrick Lamar, PSA, Take You Down, and Saturn.

SZA's music journey

Her music journey began in 2012 with her self-released EP, titled See.SZA.Run. In 2013, the singer released her second extended play titled S. These two EPs reportedly brought her initial attention and led her to a contract with Top Dawg Entertainment.

In 2017, the singer released her debut studio album titled Ctrl, featuring 14 tracks that blend R&B and alternative sounds. The album received both commercial success and critical acclaim, with songs like Love Galore (feat. Travis Scott) and Doves In The Wind (feat. Kendrick Lamar) becoming fan favorites.

Now, SZA and Kendrick Lamar are on the Grand National World Tour. The tour kicked off on April 19, 2025, in Minneapolis and is set to conclude on August 9, 2025, in Stockholm, Sweden.
