Team USA vs Australia Rosters
Four players, two of which are in the WNBA, are representing the United States in the women's 3x3 basketball tournament in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Dearica Hamby of the LA Sparks and Rhyne Howard of the Atlanta Dream lead the way followed by TCU Horned Frogs guard Hailey Van Lith and Valencia Basket's Cierra Burdick.
Hamby is having a great season for the Sparks, getting named as a replacement for teammate Cameron Brink, who suffered a knee injury. Howard is a solid veteran, while Van Lith is one of the best young guards in U.S. college basketball. As for Burdick, she's a veteran who carved out a nice career overseas.
Meanwhile, Australia has three veterans - Alex Wilson, Marena Whittle and Lauren Mansfield - plus the 25-year-old Anneli May. All four players are in the top tier of women's basketball in the country.
Team USA vs Australia Prediction
Despite having two players in the WNBA, Team USA is the underdog heading into the game against Australia. The United States might have the best talents in basketball in the world, but the 3x3 game is different.
It's fast-paced compared to the 5x5, uses only one half of the court, and the game usually lasts just around 10 minutes. Makes are also counted differently, with just a point for every basket inside the arc and two points for every basket behind the arc.
Countries also can't send anyone, as there are restrictions to the selection of players.
Prediction: It will be a back-and-forth game before Australia pulls off a close win.
