The 2025 WNBA free agency period is almost here and many stars hit the market to test out the waters before finalizing their destinations. Teams can start negotiating with players from Jan. 21 and can officially sign deals by Feb. 1.
With that, let's look at five of the biggest names who might consider big moves ahead of the 2025 WNBA season.
2025 WNBA free agency: 5 biggest names to watch out for in the market
#1 Satou Sabally
Satou Sabally is an unrestricted free agent and won't return to the Dallas Wings, where she spent the first five seasons of her career. While her health remains a concern, the 6-foot-4 forward is likely to be highly sought after by teams for her versatile and dynamic style of play.
#2 Kelsey Plum
Kelsey Plum is an unrestricted free agent and is eligible to get a max contract during the free agency. The Las Vegas Aces star did not sign a contract extension with the team before hitting the market, fueling chances of a big move. However, the Aces would likely "core" her first so they can get something in return.
#3 Jewell Loyd
While Jewell Loyd isn't a free agent, her request for a trade from the Seattle Storm puts the star guard on this list. Loyd's request for trade came after the Storm's bullying investigations found no violations last month.
The ninth-year guard has been with the Storm since being drafted by them in 2015. Loyd is coming off one of her best seasons in the league and will likely be a prime prospect for teams on the lookout.
#4 Brionna Jones
Brionna Jones is an unrestricted free agent and may be in for a big move after spending her eight-season WNBA career with the Connecticut Sun. The veteran forward is a consistent and dependable post player and may prove to be key for teams pushing to be contenders.
#5 Alyssa Thomas
Adding to the Connecticut Sun's concerns about a major remake, it is unclear if Alyssa Thomas will re-sign with the team. Thomas brings forward elite playmaking and defense, and teams are likely to make the best use of the free agency window to try and acquire her.
Moreover, Thomas and her fiancee, DeWanna Bonner, seem to be a package deal with both unrestricted free agents.
