A'ja Wilson further etched herself into WNBA folklore with a brilliant double-double against the Indiana Fever. Wilson now stands alone at the top of the pile, breaking the WNBA single-season scoring record with 941 points, surpassing Jewell Loyd's 939 points from 2023.
Wilson's stats against the Fever were nothing short of remarkable. The veteran center returned to the court against Caitlin Clark and company after missing Sunday's duel against the New York Liberty at Barclays Center. After picking up an injury against the Connecticut Sun, Wilson was seen wearing a boot before the high-flying duel against the Liberty.
She picked up where she left against the Aces, going for 10 points in the first quarter on 4-of-10 shooting from the field. She grabbed seven rebounds and recorded one block.
She only scored two points in the second quarter, enough to surpass Jewell Lloyd's record of the most points in a single WNBA season (939). She went quieter in the third quarter, dropping four points.
Wilson added three rebounds, taking her account to 11. Once the fourth quarter started, it was the A'ja Wilson show. She dropped 11 points to close out the game, grabbed one more rebound and recorded a clutch steal with 15 seconds left on the clock.
Wilson made a statement against a top opponent, scoring 27 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, dishing two assists, stealing one ball and blocking three shots. She shot 11-of-28 from the field and 5-of-7 from the free-throw line to give her team the 86-75 win.
Caitlin Clark showered A'ja Wilson with praise ahead of Aces-Fever game
Rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has seen firsthand what A'ja Wilson is capable of doing on the court. The leading Rookie of the Year candidate heaped high praise on the league MVP candidate on Tuesday.
"She’s pretty incredible," Clark said. "You watch her, and it’s just unguardable; there's nothing anybody can do to stop it. She's just that dominant; whether it's her mid-range game, she can put it on the floor, and she's just so athletic. But also she affects the game on both sides, she's a really good defensive player, a great rim protector, just so athletic."
Wilson and Clark are pretty different players, but their styles have dominated the WNBA this season, making them two of the best ballers out there ahead of the playoffs.
