Aliyah Boston crowns Gamecocks' arena the best as she takes trip to South Carolina

Aliyah Boston and the Indiana Fever have come out all guns blazing to start the second half of the 2024 WNBA season. After commanding wins against the Phoenix Mercury and Seattle Storm, Indiana seems well poised to break its seven-year playoff drought. What’s more great about those two wins is that both teams are placed above the Fever in the standings.

The Fever are on an extended break and don’t play until Saturday, when they will be on the road to face the Minnesota Lynx. Boston used this break to visit her alma mater, South Carolina, on Monday.

Early Monday morning, she shared an Instagram story featuring the Colonial Life Arena, where South Carolina basketball plays its home games.

She captioned the story:

“The best arena and no one can tell me different.”

While her claim is debatable and almost every player will call their home arena the best, Aliyah Boston’s intention is understood. This is where she built a name for herself, which led to her being the No. 1 pick in the 2022 WNBA draft.

Boston spent her entire four-year college career in South Carolina. Her magical run in 2021–22 culminated with a national title and NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player recognition. She was also named Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.

While she failed to replicate that success in her first year with the Indiana Fever, she was unanimously named the Rookie of the Year.

Aliyah Boston and Co. are about to end Indiana Fever’s playoff drought

The arrival of Caitlin Clark brought hope and excitement to Indianapolis. Along with it, the team is also on the verge of ending its seven-year drought of not making the playoffs.

The Indiana Fever are currently placed seventh in the standings with a 13-15 record. While most of the success can be credited to Clark, Boston has played her part as well.

Boston averages 14.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 blocks in 28 games. A single player cannot lead a team to stardom, and if Caitlin Clark didn’t have her Aliyah Boston, Indiana might have been looking at another disappointing season.
