During her collegiate career, Sykes played 138 matches, starting in 137 of them, and scored 1,846 points along with 810 rebounds.

Sykes was selected by the Atlanta Dream as the 7th overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft. In 2020, she signed with the Los Angeles Sparks and played three seasons for them before moving to the Washington Mystics. As of September 7, 2024, she has played 234 games in her WNBA career, recording 2,802 points, 955 rebounds, and 644 assists. In addition to her WNBA career, Sykes played in the Israeli Female Basketball Premier League for Petah Tikva in 2018.
