Caitlin Clark's popularity continues to rise as the Indiana Fever star was one of the marquee US personalities making it in Argentina President Javier Milei's social media post. The 54-year-old took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a picture of him alongside Donald Trump, billionaire Elon Musk, and Clark mentioned as Newsmakers of the Year in The Epoch Times.
In his tweet, Milei wrote in Spanish which when translated read:
"BAD DAY FOR THE MANDRILLS... LONG LIVE FREEDOM DAMN IT"
The mention adds another feather in Clark's cap as the Fever rookie continues to be a massive global influence. After surpassing all expectations as a rookie, the No. 1 pick of the 2024 class went on to win the Rookie of the Year and later garnered immense spotlight in the offseason making the TIME cover.
Caitlin Clark bags AP's 'Female Athlete of the Year' award
Earlier this week, Caitlin Clark was named AP's 'Female Athlete of the Year' for her impact on and off the hardwood. A group of 74 sports journalists from The Associated Press and its members cast their vote on the award. Clark received 35 votes surpassing Olympic gymnast Simone Biles (25) and boxer Imane Khelif (four).
Clark also became only the fourth women’s basketball player to be honored with the prestigious award since it was first presented in 1931, joining Sheryl Swoopes (1993), Rebecca Lobo (1995), and Candace Parker (2008 and 2021).
Speaking to the publication, Clark, in a telephonic interview called it a great year for women's basketball and women's sports while adding:
"I grew up a fan of Candace Parker and the people who came before me and to be honored in this way, is super special and I’m thankful."
Clark entered the WNBA as one of the more decorated names in the draft this season, and her presence saw sold-out arenas and a massive surge in viewership. Lobo, who won the award in 1995, also praised the Fever superstar, saying there had never been a phenomenon like Caitlin Clark.
"She’s brought unprecedented attention both in the building, but also viewership to the sport that was worthy of it but didn’t have it yet. There’s never been anything like this.”
All eyes will now be on Clark as she enters her second season in the WNBA with a new head coach as the Indiana side looks to build on their solid 2024 outing. Only time will tell if she can get her hands on the WNBA title in the next season.
