Since Caitlin Clark was drafted No. 1 by the Indiana Fever, the Eastern Conference franchise has instantly jumped to become a big-market team. The basketball fraternity has been eagerly anticipating every opportunity to watch Caitlin Clark showcase her remarkable talents. While Clark continues to dazzle in her rookie season, her performances have not translated into wins for the Fever.

As a result, Fever coach Christie Sides has become the center of much criticism. Numerous WNBA fans and Indiana Fever supporters have been relentlessly urging the franchise's decision-makers to fire Sides and find a new coach who can make things work with the current pool of players. The Indiana Fever are currently enduring a poor start to their WNBA 2024 season, having slipped to a 1-7 record after eight games.

Sides has been widely criticized for not being able to unlock the full potential of the team and is seen by many as the primary reason behind the Fever's disappointing start to the season.

How did Sides end up in Indiana? She has been involved with coaching in the WNBA for well over a decade. She first paid her dues as an assistant coach before earning the head coaching job with the Indiana Fever.

Christie Sides' coaching career and records

After serving as an assistant coach at the junior level Ruston High School, Louisiana Tech, and LSU, Sides' first professional job came overseas with Spartak Moscow. Following 12 years of coaching experience at various levels, Sides began her WNBA career as an assistant with the Chicago Sky in 2011.

She was associated with the Chicago Sky as an assistant coach for six years before parting ways with the franchise in 2016. For the 2016-17 season, Sides served as the assistant coach for the Northwestern Wildcats at the NCAA level.

Sides then landed another coaching gig in 2018 when the Fever appointed her as their assistant coach. She worked as an assistant coach for two years with the Fever before they parted ways in 2019.

Sides returned to the NCAA level and worked as an assistant coach with Louisiana–Monroe from 2019 to 2022 before earning a job as the assistant coach for the Atlanta Dream in the WNBA.

After working with the Dream for a year, Sides landed her first head coaching job with the Fever in 2023.

Christie Sides' head coaching record with Indiana Fever

Since taking over the reins at Indiana, Sides' stats as a head coach in the WNBA have been sub-par. During her first season with the Fever in 2023, Sides managed to orchestrate just 13 wins for the franchise in 40 matches. Under Sides' leadership, Indiana incurred 27 defeats last year. Among the 12 teams in the league, the Fever's 13-27 record was the third-worst, resulting in their failure to make the playoffs.

In the ongoing season, things aren't looking bright for the Fever and Sides either. The team is off to a horrendous start, winning just a single game out of the eight played.
