The Connecticut Sun and the Dallas Wings square off for the third and final time this season on Friday. Connecticut, unbeaten in the season series, hopes to make the head-to-head battle a sweep. A win by the Sun (18-6) will also move them two games behind the New York Liberty (22-4) for the best record in the WNBA.

Meanwhile, the Wings, toting a 6-19 record, still have a mathematical chance of getting into the playoffs, but they will have to start stringing wins together. Accomplishing that will be a tall task as they continue to miss three key players on the roster. Maddy Siegrist, Jaelyn Brown and Awak Kuier are all unavailable for the encounter with the Sun.

Connecticut can’t afford to overlook the injury-plagued Wings, who are capable of pulling off an upset. Dallas won 94-88 against the Minnesota Lynx in late June and beat the Indiana Fever 101-93 before the long Olympic break.

Connecticut Sun vs. Dallas Wings: Game preview

The Sun is second in the WNBA in net rating (8.7), which proves their two-way excellence. Connecticut’s defense is neck and neck with the Minnesota Lynx as the best in the league. If the Sun’s shooting touch isn’t there, the team can always rely on its lockdown defense to push it to the finish line.

On the other hand, the Wings offense has been underrated. There have been games when they are tough to contain, particularly if Arike Ogunbowale gets it going. Dallas needs its All-Star Game MVP to be at her best for it to have a chance of pulling off an upset.

If the Wings offense stutters, the host’s least efficient league defense will have to step up.

Connecticut Sun vs. Dallas Wings: Prediction

Connecticut’s defense travels well on the road. The Sun could slow down Ogunbowale and then cruise to victory. Unlike the visitors, the Wings have to almost rely solely on their offense to win games. Even if Dallas has rhythm on that end, that might not be enough to prevent the Sun from walking away with the victory.
