
The two-time WNBA's Sixth Player of the Year, Dearica Hamby has taken the role of a leader for the Los Angeles Sparks. The 10-year veteran Hamby was selected by the San Antonio Stars as the sixth pick in the first round of the 2015 WNBA Draft. She spent eight seasons with the Las Vegas Aces and two seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks. In 2022, Hamby won the WNBA Commissioner's Cup championship with the Aces and WNBA championship in the same year.
On January 21, 2023, Hamby was traded to the Los Angeles Sparks. Throughout her WNBA career, she has played 322 games, scoring 3,279 points, grabbing 1,968 rebounds, dishing out 544 assists, and recording 318 steals, as of January 2025. The 2024 WNBA season was easily the best of Hamby's career, as she posted career highs across several categories, averaging 17.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.7 steals while shooting 51.2% from the field. Hamby played 40 games in 2024, scoring 691 points, grabbing 368 rebounds, dishing out 139 assists, and recording 68 steals, all of which are career highs for her in a single season. Moreover, in recognition of her excellence on and off the court, Hamby won the 2024 Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award. Dearica Hamby played college basketball for Wake Forest University in the Atlantic Coast Conference. She played at Wake Forest from 2011 to 2015 and concluded her career as the all-time leading scorer and rebounder in the college's history.
As of January 2025, Hamby remains the only woman from Wake Forest to be drafted into the WNBA in the 21st century. The first Wake Forest player to reach the league was Nicole Levesque, who played for the Charlotte Sting in 1997.

In her Wake Forest Demon Deacons career, Hamby was named Wake Forest’s 2015 Female Student-Athlete of the Year (Marge Crisp Award), and she was named to the All-ACC First Team twice in 2014 and 2015.
