Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever look to keep their historic season alive when they face the Connecticut Sun in Game 2 of their best-of-three first-round WNBA Playoffs at Mohegan Sun Arena on Wednesday.
It isn't anywhere near to being job done for Stephanie White’ Sun, but they arrive at the game in a healthy position, leading 1-0 in the series. In the opener, the Sun came away with a 93-69 victory.
Marina Mabrey emerged as an unlikely hero off the bench, scoring a career-high 27 points, three rebounds and three assists in 32 minutes. The Sun outshot the Fever, shooting 49.3% from the field (including 50.0% from 3-pointers) compared to the Fever's 40.3% (21.4% from 3-pointers).
The Fever were second best in every aspect, but they will enter the game with confidence and hope that they can turn around the series, given their form after the break.
Should the Fever win, they would force a deciding third game in Indiana on Friday night. They went 12-8 during the regular season at home, including a 10-1 run after the break, ending their long unbeaten streak.
Indiana Fever vs. Connecticut Sun: Starting lineups and depth charts
Indiana Fever starting lineups and depth charts
There are largely no fresh injury concerns for Christie Sides to deal with. However, Game 1 was overshadowed by a minor injury to Caitlin Clark, who was accidentally poked in the eye by Connecticut's DiJonai Carrington, causing a heated debate among fans.
Clark struggled against Connecticut's defense, scoring only 11 points. However, she's expected to be ready for Game 2 and will remain the primary target of the opposing defense.
It should be an unchanged group for the Fever, with Sides will likely to pair Clark with Lexie Hull, Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston and NaLyssa Smith.
Connecticut Sun starting lineups and depth chart
Guard Tiffany Mitchell is the only player out for the Sun, as she's dealing with illness, while Tyasha Harris's status is questionable with an ankle injury. Harris only played four minutes in the previous game and is unlikely to participate on Wednesday.
If Harris isn’t starting, Stephanie White may look to utilize Marina Mabrey alongside DeWanna Bonner, Alyssa Thomas, Brionna Jones and DiJonai Carrington.
Indiana Fever vs. Connecticut Sun: What to expect?
The Sun are the big favorites. The chance that the Fever will spring a surprise on the road is slim, but it won't be the first time they spring a miracle.
If they have a really good day and the Sun don't, Indiana could cause an upset. But, as mentioned above, the defence of the Sun seems to be too strong, making it unlikely for the Fever to reach the playoff semis.
