Angel Reese is expected to feature in the Chicago Sky's home game against the New York Liberty at Wintrust Arena on Saturday. Reese, who is one of the leading candidates to win the Rookie of the Year award, is not listed on Chicago's injury list.
Reese gave Sky fans a scare during Chicago's last WNBA game – also against the Liberty – at Barclays Center on Thursday. With 6:11 remaining in the third quarter, the Sky rookie was seen limping off the court as she made her way to the locker room. The former LSU superstar looked in visible discomfort as she grimaced with pain.
After spending a few minutes inside the locker room and receiving treatment from the team's medical staff, Angel Reese returned to the court. Fans breathed a sigh of relief when the rookie seemed to shake off any minor injury scare.
Most importantly, Reese didn't appear to be in any significant pain when she returned to action. She even finished the game with yet another double-double, extending her WNBA record to 15 consecutive games.
"I don’t even know how...the basketball gods keep blessing me. I don’t even know how I did that. I didn’t have a great night tonight obviously, but we get another day," Reese told reporters after the Sky's 91-76 loss against the Liberty on Thursday.
The Sky rookie has been extremely durable and featured in every single game for Chicago so far this season.
Angel Reese vs. New York Liberty
Angel Reese has struggled to impose her will in either one of the Sky's previous three games against the Liberty this season. New York is one team that has succeeded in frustrating Reese, not allowing the rookie to dominate on the offensive end or on the glass.
Reese averages 12.0 points against New York in three games. She averages just 3.7 made field goals in 13 attempts per game against Breanna Stewart & Co. and has a poor shooting percentage of 28.3%.
Notably, Reese averages 9.7 rebounds against the Liberty, which is considerably less than her career average of 11.8. She has a +/- of -0.7 against the Eastern Conference team.
Angel Reese is on a historic streak
Reese is currently on a 15-game double-double streak. No other player in WNBA history has recorded more than 12 consecutive games with a double-double.
The Sky rookie is averaging 13.8 ppg, 11.8 rpg and 1.8 apg on 41.1% shooting so far this season. Notably, she leads the league in rebounding.
Chicago has a 9-13 record for the season and Angel Reese has played an important role in keeping the team in the playoff picture. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs and the Sky are currently ranked eighth in the league.
