What happened to Marina Mabrey?
Before the Unrivaled season started, Marina Mabrey suffered a right calf strain during the 3-on-3 league's training camp. The 5-foot-11 guard is yet to make her debut in the league and is expected to return to play in two to four weeks.
Before sustaining the injury, Mabrey told Sports Illustrated that she was excited about the opportunity that Unrivaled brings.
"First of all, I'm excited about Unrivaled because we get to stay in the States and continue to build the viewership and get eyes on women's sports, with fans able to watch us throughout the whole year, WNBA players have not been able to really do that at this level, so that is a huge positive," Mabrey said.
In the 2024 WNBA season, Mabrey was traded from the Chicago Sky to the Connecticut Sun mid-season, and averaged 14.4 poinst, 4.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.1 steals between the two teams. She shot 41.3% from the field including 37.7% from beyond the arc as the Sun clinched the third seed in the regualr season before being eliminated in the semifinals.
