Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson received a 99 overall rating in the upcoming NBA 2K25, making her the first WNBA player in the game's history to receive a 99 overall. As per a video posted by NBA 2K on X/Twitter, Wilson foretold her 99 overall rating last year after she received a 98 overall rating in the game's previous edition.
Talking about her 98 rating for NBA 2K24 in the video, the reigning WNBA Finals MVP said that Ronnie, the rating decider for NBA 2K, needs to do better:
"That's what I strive to be. Obviously, I would love to be the highest rating, but you know 98 right now, Ronnie needs to do better. I already know I'm a 99, so you never know, we'll see," Wilson said.
Further, when asked about what she expected her 2K25 rating to be, Wilson predicted the highest possible rating of 99 for herself:
"It better be a 99, and I added a three to my game, so what more can we say?" she added.
Wilson is coming off back-to-back WNBA championships as the Las Vegas Aces look to three-peat in the 2024 WNBA season. The two-time WNBA MVP is averaging a never-before-seen double-double stat line of 27.1 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.9 steals and 2.7 blocks. She also leads as the favorite to win the WNBA MVP this season.
As the reigning back-to-back Defensive Player of the Year, Wilson is also the favorite to win the defensive honor for the third consecutive season. However, despite her spectacular contributions, the Aces are struggling to find convincing ground since the league resumed after the 2024 Paris Olympics break.
The Aces (18-12) are currently fifth in the overall WNBA standings and third in the Western Conference.
A'ja Wilson drops 42 in loss against Dallas
Despite a historic performance by A'ja Wilson on Tuesday, the Aces fell 93-90 in their previous matchup against the Dallas Wings. The 6-foot-5 center recorded 42 points in the defeat, which is the most by any WNBA player in the season yet, along with being the third 40+ point outing of her career.
Wilson also recorded six rebounds, two assists, one steal and three blocks in the loss as she shot an efficient 72.7% from the field. However, after the game, Wilson said that her elite performance didn't account for much as they ended up losing (via Marca.com):
"I wish I could shoot perfect every game, but that's not always the case. I don't let a lot of things linger because it takes you out of the moment. I'm going to try to still be productive for my team. Today, it was this... but we didn't get the win, so none of that matters," Wilson said.
Currently having the best season of her seven-year career so far, A'ja Wilson has consistently turned it up for the Aces as they look to secure the WNBA's first-ever championship three-peat. However, her efforts are just not enough to get her team over the line of late, so the Aces will need to step up quickly as the 2024 regular season nears its conclusion.
