Kalani Brown is a professional basketball player playing for the Dallas Wings in the WNBA. She was selected 7th overall in the first round of the 2019 WNBA draft by the Los Angeles Sparks. While at Baylor, Brown helped her team to the 2019 NCAA Championship and received Big 12 Player of the Year and was an All-American by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in 2017 and 2018. She was also a McDonald’s All-American in 2015, which earmarked her as one of the best players in the country at the time, following which, she was also nominated in the Big 12 All-Freshman Team in 2016 and later made it to 3 First-team All-Big 12 from 2017 to 2019.

Brown has played for different teams in her professional career including the WNBA and other leagues across the world. She played for the Sparks in her rookie season and then joined the Atlanta Dream in 2020 and also played in China, Turkey and Israel. Off the court, Brown has a basketball background in her family; her father P. J. Brown is a former NBA player while her mother DeJuna Brown played for Louisiana Tech University.

Dee also took up coaching after her playing days were over. She worked as an assistant coach at Salmen High School in Slidell, Louisiana, and coached her own daughter, Kalani. Dee’s coaching style is said to be passionate, driven and no-nonsense, just like her role model, Kim Mulkey, who also trained Kalani at Baylor University.

Brown was born on October 14, 1969, in Detroit, Michigan and he was a power forward and a center. He was a defensive specialist, a great rebounder, and a team captain on the basketball court. He played in the NBA for 15 years and has been associated with the New Jersey Nets, Miami Heat, Charlotte/New Orleans Hornets, Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics.

Some of the achievements of P.J. Brown include; being an NBA champion for the Boston Celtics in 2008. He was also a three-time NBA All-Defensive Team selection (1997, 1999 and 2001).
