Mitchell’s basketball career started at Princeton High School in Sharonville, Ohio where she was among the most promising players. She then moved to Ohio State University where she remained one of the most effective scorers in the history of the NCAA. In her college playing years, Mitchell amassed 3,402 points, which placed her 4th overall on the all-time list of NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball scorers. Her outstanding performance led her to several awards, among them was the Dawn Staley Award in the year 2018 and several All-American accolades.

Mitchell was drafted in the WNBA in 2018 when she was picked second overall by Indiana Fever. Since her WNBA debut, she has been a steady and prolific scorer, and she was selected to the WNBA All-Rookie Team in her first season and was a WNBA All-Star in 2023 and 2024.
