The Las Vegas Aces visit the New York Liberty on Sunday at Barclays Center for Game 1 of their semifinal matchup in the 2024 WNBA playoffs. It's a rematch of the 2023 WNBA Finals, and the Liberty must be out for revenge after losing to the Aces in four games last year.

New York finished the season with the best record in the league at 32-8. It swept the Atlanta Dream in the first round, and looks good to dethrone the back-to-back defending WNBA champions.

On the other hand, the Aces had an uncanny rough start to the season and only gained momentum toward the end, winning nine of their last 10 games. They then dispatched the Seattle Storm in two games, setting up the stage for the rematch of the 2023 WNBA Finals.

Here are the highlights of their first matchup of the regular season on June 8:

Las Vegas Aces vs New York Liberty preview

The Liberty swept the Aces in the regular season 3-0 after losing last year's WNBA Finals 3-1. They did look great against Las Vegas but the defending champions didn't have Chelsea Gray in their first matchup, while A'ja Wilson was absent in the third game.

Nevertheless, the Liberty looked great all season long and the Aces had some rough patches as they finished as the No. 4 seed. They have won 11 of their last 12 games, including the first round of the playoffs, so they are peaking at the right time.

Here are the highlights of their second matchup of the regular season on Aug. 17:

Las Vegas Aces vs New York Liberty prediction

The Liberty are favored to beat the Aces in Game 1 of their semifinal matchup. Both teams are healthy so it's going to be an interesting game, likely a back-and-forth battle led by Breanna Stewart and A'ja Wilson. Expect it to be a close game with New York getting the win and a 1-0 series lead.
