Seattle Storm star Skylar Diggins-Smith once had Toronto Raptors ambassador and rap superstar Drake enchanted during a bit at the 2014 ESPYs. The Canadian artist was seen fawning over Smith in a public setting before his obsession ended with an awkward kiss.
During the bit, he expresses his feelings for Diggins-Smith by reciting a poem, professing his love for her on stage. Delivering a rhyme titled "Can I Digg In" Drake can be seen reciting a few verses before the then-Dallas Wings star creeps behind him on stage and interrupts his poem. Drake acts shocked and says:
"Oh my god!" Drake exclaimed, "Oh wow, Lordy lordy! Michael Jordy," the rapper said, before continuing trying to explain his motive behind dedicating a poem to her. (1:22)
Diggins-Smith, who seems fed up with Drake, pleads with him to stop as she is heard saying:
"Drake I am flattered, but all this has to stop. Like what's it going to take to end this craziness right now?"
Drake reveals that he would like a kiss from Diggins-Smith to end his obsession, and to his surprise, she agrees. Diggins-Smith asks the artist to close his eyes for the big moment. Just as she leans in to kiss him, she pecks him on the forehead, leaving a large lipstick stain.
This interaction was felt by many to be very awkward, and not just due to its nature. Skylar Diggins-Smith's longtime boyfriend Daniel Smith was watching from the audience. Drake and Daniel Smith also had a pre-existing kerfuffle on Instagram, which made the entire exchange quite hard to watch, with many questioning the tone and purpose of the bit.
"Bayou Barbie" Angel Reese credits Skylar Diggins-Smith as the first "W Baddie" in the WNBA
Chicago Sky star Angel Reese was spotted pronouncing Seattle guard Skylar Diggins-Smith as the first "W Baddie" in the WNBA during a Jan 17 episode of her podcast, "Unapologetically Angel." The duo sat down to discuss multiple topics including how Smith felt about being the first certified "Baddy" in the league.
A snippet of the episode was posted on Instagram, during which Reese can be seen having an exchange with Diggins-Smith. The post shows Bayou Barbie calling Diggins-Smith the first Baddie as she proposes a question:
"How was it being credited as the first W baddie?"
Diggins-Smith reacted by acting as if she was flattered before going on to express how she felt about the whole perception:
"No, No, I don't care. I think that's cool," Diggins is heard saying as she answers the question.
Claiming that Skylar Diggins-Smith walked the path of being a baddie so she could run with it, Angel Reese is seen giving the Seattle Storm guard her flowers as she continues to praise her during the remaining part of the clip.
