The Minnesota Lynx vs Connecticut Sun second-round series of the 2024 WNBA Playoffs starts Sunday. Both teams got there after convincing 2-0 first-round series wins. While Minnesota defeated the Phoenix Mercury, Connecticut beat the Caitlin Clark-led Indiana Fever.

The Lynx had a great regular season, as they finished second overall with a 30-10 record. The Sun weren’t far behind, as they finished third with a 28-12 record.

Minnesota Lynx vs Connecticut Sun playoffs history and player stats from last series

The Minnesota Lynx vs Connecticut Sun series should be an interesting matchup as Minnesota will have revenge in its mind after last year’s 2-1 loss in the first round. Those are also the only three games the two teams have played against each other in the WNBA Playoffs.

The Sun started the series strong with a 90-75 win behind Alyssa Thomas’ 28 points and 12 assists. The Lynx fought back with an 82-75 Game 2 win to keep the series alive. Minnesota was led by Kayla McBride’s 28 points and eight rebounds, while Napheesa Collier had 26 points and 13 rebounds.

While much was expected of Game 3, Connecticut blew past Minnesota 90-60. After a fairly competitive 18-16 first quarter, the Sun outscored the Lynx 72-44 for the rest of the game. Thomas had a double-double of 15 points and 10 assists. DeWanna Bonner, Rebecca Allen and Tiffany Hayes chipped in with 17, 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Minnesota Lynx vs Connecticut Sun preview and head-to-head record in 2024

The two teams met three times in the 2024 regular season, with Connecticut winning the series 2-1. Their most recent meeting was on Sept. 17, a game that Minnesota won 78-76.

Going by the season record, Minnesota should be considered the favorite in this second-round series. However, the Sun have consistently proven that they have the Lynx’s number, be it this season or last season’s first-round series. However, a lot will come down to Collier’s performance.

In the Lynx’s first-round win over Mercury, Collier averaged a staggering 40.0 points, scoring 38 points in Game 1 and then followed it up with 42 in Game 2. She is likely to match up against the Sun’s Alyssa Thomas. If Thomas can contain the Lynx forward, Connecticut could get the upset series win.

When and where to watch Minnesota Lynx vs Connecticut Sun Game 1

Game 1 of the series is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EDT on Sunday, Sept. 29, at Target Center. The game will broadcast nationally on ESPN. It won’t even stream live on WNBA League Pass and will only be made available on demand after it ends.
