A'ja Wilson capped off the 2024 season by winning the WNBA MVP award unanimously. The Las Vegas Aces superstar is now the second player in league history to get unanimous recognition after Cynthia Cooper-Dyke in 1997. Wilson’s incredible run this season will be honored in due time.
Nike, who announced, in May, a signature shoe to come out in 2025 for the All-Star forward, will lead the line in appreciating and honoring Wilson. Journalist Meghan L. Hall reported on Sunday what the Forbes-listed $129 billion brand has in store for fans of the three-time WNBA MVP:
“Checked Nike.com and while there wasn’t a shirt for her 1K-point season, the M’V3 shirt is coming soon. I suggest signing up for the available notification because her first A’One shirt sold-out quickly.”
Like Hall, many basketball fans on social media wondered why Nike didn’t release a commemorative shirt following Wilson’s historic 1,000th point game this month. Wilson became the first player in league history to breach that mark on Sep. 15 against the Connecticut Sun.
Nike will not make that mistake by ensuring it drops the “M’V3” shirts soon. It should be a highly anticipated release, like the “A’One.”
The shirt might come in different colors, but the initial model provided by Hall is a largely black version. Wilson’s accomplishments this season are listed on the back of the T-shirt, while her face dominates the front end.
A'ja Wilson deserves recognition from Nike and basketball fans
The numbers A'ja Wilson has put up this season are simply incredible. Breaking the 1,000-point barrier was just the start.
The Las Vegas Aces franchise cornerstone ended the season with the most total points, rebounds and blocked shots. The three-time MVP’s 1,021 points and 451 rebounds re-wrote the single season history records. Her 26.9 points per game were also the most in a single season, erasing Diana Taurasi’s 25.3 PPG in 2006.
Wilson had five straight games this year with 20+ points and 10+ rebounds, the first player to accomplish that. She became the first to average 25+ points and 10+ rebounds in a single season. Breanna Stewart, the 2023 MVP, and Napheesa Collier had impressive seasons but what Wilson did was simply the best this year.
The WNBA named Wilson the fourth player in league history to win the MVP three times. Nike will have plenty of reasons to honor and appreciate her for what she has accomplished this year.
