After playing just 15 games for the Dallas Wings last season due to an offseason injury sustained while with the German National Team, Satou Sabally has announced she has played her last game in Dallas.
The Wings are poised to pick Paige Bueckers with the top pick in the 2025 WNBA draft.
During her media availability for Unrivaled on Thursday, Sabally, who signed a one-year, $195,000 contract in 2024, said:
"I’ve already played my last game in Dallas. I’m excited for free agency. I’m able to talk to a lot of players out the league because I have not played on a different team yet and I’m excited to get to know them more on a personal level, but also how they approach the game."
Sabally told the media that she's working with the team to find a new home ahead of her sixth year in the league. Whether that means hitting free agency or receiving a core designation to facilitate a sign-and-trade, it's only a matter of time.
When the Unrivaled set to tip off on Jan. 17, Sabally will join Marina Mabrey, Brittney Griner, Natasha Cloud, Katie Lou Samuelson and Sabrina Ionescu on Phantom Basketball Club.
Given that she hasn't played with her Phantom BC teammates in the WNBA and hasn't teamed up with Ionescu since college, it will be intriguing to see how her time in Unrivaled influences her next WNBA contract.
Looking at potential landing spots for Satou Sabally ahead of 2025 WNBA season as she looks to part ways with Dallas Wings
The Unrivaled 3x3 league will allow Satou Sabally to connect with various players while reuniting with former college teammate Sabrina Ionescu.
The two played together at Oregon from 2017 to 2020, and with Sabally's sister, Nyara, also playing in New York, the Liberty seems like a likely destination for the two-time All-Star.
Although the team is preparing to re-sign Stewart after the 2024 championship run, as USA Today's Meghan L. Hall wrote on Thursday, the team can afford to pay Sabally and re-sign Stewart.
If Sabally doesn't land in New York, fans have been holding out hope that she either joins Caitlin Clark in Indiana or signs a deal with the Atlanta Dream, which the Liberty eliminated in the first round of the 2024 playoffs.
With the WNBA's free agency right around the corner and Unrivaled set to tip-off, only time will tell where she lands.
