2024 WNBA All-Defensive Teams: A'ja Wilson and DiJonai Carrington headline first-team

Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson and Connecticut Sun guard DiJonai Carrington have been nominated for one of the prestigious season-ending WNBA awards.

Alongside Wilson and Carrington, Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier, Seattle Storm's Ezi Magbegor and New York Liberty's Breanna Stewart have made the 2024 WNBA All-Defensive first team.

Out of the five players mentioned above, four are featured in the top 10 for blocks made this season.

A'ja Wilson leads the charts with 2.6 blocks per game, while Ezi Magbegor holds the third position with 2.2 blocks. Collier and Stewart hold the seventh and ninth positions on the leaderboard, respectively.

DiJonai Carrington is ranked 37 on the leaderboard. Her inclusion on the All-Defensive team can be credited to the versatility and impact she provided for her team coming off the bench early in the season.

Later in the season, when Stephanie White started Carrington, she showed great tenacity as a two-way player.

Meanwhile, Connecticut Sun star Alyssa Thomas, Minnesota Lynx forward Alanna Smith, Storm's Nneka Ogwumike, Liberty's Jonquel Jones and Phoenix Mercury's Natasha Cloud were named to the 2024 WNBA All-Defensive second team.

A'ja Wilson named unanimous WNBA MVP

A'ja Wilson was named the unanimous MVP, becoming only the second player in the league's history to achieve the feat.

She also tied the record of the great Cynthia Cooper by getting named the MVP for the third time in her career.

The official X handle of the Aces posted a video of Wilson tearing up while expressing her feelings in front of her teammates and coaching staff.

"I cannot thank you all enough. I hope you guys understand how much you mean to me. I hope you guys know that this trophy is nothing without y’all. We’ve been through the ringer ... and we gon’ continue to go through the ringer... but one thing y’all don’t ever have to worry about is A’ja going anywhere."

A'ja Wilson delivered incredible performances this season. She averaged 26.9 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game and led her team to the playoffs. Wilson and the Aces are on a quest to complete a three-peat. They take on the New York Liberty in the semi-finals.
