"3 million people saw my Queen Mabrey got smoked" - WNBA fans abuzz over Caitlin Clark & Angel Reese shattering 23-year-old viewership record

Rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese continue to prove why they are one of the biggest draws in the WNBA today, breaking the league’s 23-year-old viewership record.

On Sunday, Clark’s Indiana Fever warded off Reese’s Chicago Sky 91-83 in a heated battle, which drew an average of 2.25 million viewers. It peaked at three million viewers on CBS, the most in 23 years as per IndyStar Sports' Chloe Peterson.

The Fever-Sky game was also the most-watched WNBA game on the Paramount+ streaming platform across households and average minute audiences.

Reacting to the historic numbers, WNBA fans spoke about how the rivalry between Clark and Reese has been changing the game for the league.

“And the rivalry between Clark and Reese is only going to get spicier, as the two continue to improve their game. We've got something special y'all,” a fan said.
“That’s great for women’s sports, the league and these two competitive teams. It was a close game,” another fan said.
“This game started IN THE MORNING for most time zones, too. Incredible,” one fan said.

Other fans chimed in on the discussion, roasting Reese as her team lost their second straight game versus the Fever this season.

“3 million people saw my Queen Mabrey got smoked 😭😭😭,” one fan said.
“THREE million people got to witness CLARK Win,” another fan said.
“The Caitlin Clark effect at it's finest,” another fan wrote.

Clark recorded 23 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds for her team’s second-straight win. On the other hand, Reese tallied 11 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and two steals while shooting 4-of-13 from the field in the losing effort.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese’s rivalry gets downplayed by Stephen A. Smith

In yesterday’s episode of ESPN’s First Take, Stephen A. Smith expressed his opinion on Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, downplaying their rivalry as they do not play the same style and positions on the court.

"Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ain't competing with Larry Bird as much as Magic Johnson was going up against Larry Bird. ... If (Sabrina) Ionescu and Caitlin Clark were going at one another, now that's a rivalry that I'm willing to entertain because their games are similar. ... Their games (Clark and Reese) are on two different ends of the spectrum," Smith said.

Clark plays point guard, leaning on her outside shooting, while Reese positions as a forward, with her back-to-the-basket game. There is also a three-inch difference between their heights.

Additionally, Clark has been known for her three-point shooting, while Reese dominates the game with her post moves and footwork.

Be that as it may, the two drew a sellout crowd in their game last Sunday, filling out the arena with 17,274 fans.
