Caitlin Clark has not only left fans and analysts stunned with her remarkable play for the Indiana Fever this season but she has also cemented her place in WNBA history with some historic performances. After starting the year off slow, Clark quickly began to find her rhythm and earned a WNBA All-Star nod her first year in the league.
With the WNBA postseason rapidly approaching and just eight games to go before the start of the postseason, Clark and the Fever are sitting comfortably within postseason contention.
While the seventh-place Phoenix Mercury are nipping at their heels, the Fever are 4.5 games ahead of the eighth-place Chicago Sky. Given Clark's play and the team's success after a 10th-place finish last season, she is leading the Rookie of the Year voting on DraftKings Sportsbook.
There are other reasons to believe that Clark deserves to make the All-WNBA first team.
Three reasons why Caitlin Clark should make All-WNBA first team
#1: Historic milestones
24 games into the WNBA's 40-game regular season, Caitlin Clark became the first rookie to record 400+ points, 100+ rebounds and 150+ assists in a single season. The fact that no other rookie has achieved the statistical feat in the history of the WNBA marked a massive moment for the league; however, Clark is still going.
With eight games left on the calendar, Clark will continue to extend her record and set the bar incredibly high for any rookie who hopes to chase the feat. Of course, that isn't the only record she has broken as Clark also broke the WNBA's single-game assist record back in July.
#2: Team success
Given her unprecedented success throughout her rookie year, Caitlin Clark has also led the Indiana Fever to their best record since 2016 when they finished in fifth place. Since then, the Fever have yet to make a postseason appearance.
While this season is still ongoing and the Fever could mathematically wind up getting eliminated, if the team remains in postseason contention it will be hard to deny Clark's impact, further adding to her case for the All-WNBA first team.
#3: Season stats
In addition to the success of the Indiana Fever as a team and Caitlin Clark's historic play for a rookie, she has also put the WNBA on notice with her play. Clark is leading the league in assists with 8.3 per game, with Alyssa Thomas in second with a 7.8 average.
At the same time, Clark and Sabrina Ionescu are tied for first place with 2.9 3-pointers per game. However, Clark also has the longest average 3-pointer by distance in all of pro basketball — even beating Stephen Curry.
