Kelsey Plum has been the subject of trade rumors in recent days as the Las Vegas Aces reportedly want to move on from the veteran after failing to win a third straight WNBA championship. The Chicago Sky, LA Sparks and Seattle Storm have been mentioned as potential landing spots for the point guard, but the Indiana Fever could also make a run for her services.
Even though they have an All-Star guard on the roster in Kelsey Mitchell, the Fever could still look to land Plum to bolster their ranks. Perhaps this is hard to fathom for several players, but the option of seeing Kelsey Plum playing alongside Caitlin Clark makes a lot of sense for three major reasons.
3 reasons why Kelsey Plum makes sense for Indiana Fever
#3, No locker room drama in Indiana
Despite a couple of incidents with NaLyssa Smith, her relationship with DiJonai Carrington and how she's acted during tense moments with Fever fans, the team overall has a healthy relationship. Kelsey Plum could easily fit in with her new teammates considering how well they got along last season, propelling the team to a 20-20 record and a playoff berth.
#2, Solid No. 2 scoring option
Having both Kelsey Plum and Caitlin Clark on the same roster would give the Indiana Fever two of the best scorers in NCAA Division I basketball history. Plum finished the 2024 season as the second-best scorer for the Aces, averaging 17.8 points per game, only behind A'ja Wilson's 26.9 ppg.
Besides her play-making abilities, Plum brings a lot of scoring to the table and a team with Caitlin Clark as the primary scorer would benefit from having Plum next to their star.
#1, She’s a proven winner
Kelsey Plum has been a proven winner for a while. She's won two WNBA championships but has also collected silverware overseas. She's a two-time Turkish Super League champion and one-time Turkish Cup winner.
Individually, Plum is a three-time WNBA All-Star who won the MVP award of the 2022 edition. She won the 2021 WNBA Sixth Player of the Year and was named the Naismith College Player of the Year in 2017, among other honors.
The Indiana Fever have been linked with a move for Satou Sabally, but Kelsey Plum isn't a bad option for them, either. It remains to be seen if they place their attention on Plum or focus on a different player.
