Five-time NBA champion Ron Harper has expressed his views on the WNBA's coaching carousel. The former Lakers player left his thoughts in the comments section of 'I Talk Hoops' post on X. The post featured the images of the four head coaches who were fired after the 2023-24 season.
"Bullsh*t," Harper wrote.
The list of coaches featured in the post included Curt Miller, Teresa Weatherspoon, Tanisha Wright and Latricia Trammell. Miller used to be the coach for the Los Angeles Sparks while Weatherspoon, Wright and Trammell used to coach the Chicago Sky, Atlanta Dream and Dallas Wings, respectively.
Miller and Weatherspoon had taken command of their respective franchise for only a year before getting fired. Under Miller's guidance, the Sparks finished the season at the bottom of the ladder.
However, the coach can not be blamed entirely for the team's failure. Sparks were under an injury plague last season with their starting lineup players such as Cameron Brink and Lexie Brown sidelined for the majority of the season.
On the other hand, under Weatherspoon's coaching, the Chicago Sky did great for the majority of the season. However, after Angel Reese's injury, they fumbled the seventh seed place and lost their chance to qualify for the playoffs.
Wright and Trammell faced similar fates because of their team's failures. Atlanta Dream did manage to make it to the playoffs only to be eliminated by the NY Liberty. On the contrary, the Dallas Wings ended their season as the second-last seed in the standings.
Ron Harper defends WNBA rookie stars Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese
Ron Harper's reactions weren't limited to the WNBA coach firings. The five-time NBA champion expressed his opinions to defend WNBA star rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.
Sports media outlet 'The Score' made a post on X informing their 620.3K followers about Angel Reese being unsatisfied with her current salary in the league. However, Harper asked the sports outlet to keep out of the young Sky player's off-court life.
"Why are you in her life? I’m sure her off the courts deals are good and better then yours," Harper posted.
Likewise, Harper expressed his opinion concerning Clark under an NBA Central X post. The basketball social media page reported CBS' Jacob Melony's opinion of the 3x3 basketball league's move to sign Caitlin Clark, highlighting that Unrivaled needed the Fever rookie more than she needed them.
Ron Harper left his response in the comments section of the post, highlighting that playing in the W was Clark's dream all along.
"Shut up the WNBA gonna be ok without CC but this is her dreams to make the WNBA better for other women."
After hanging his boots from professional basketball, Ron Harper is pursuing a career as a coach. He is currently an assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons in the NBA.
