A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces have slowly found their groove again after the Olympic break by winning four straight games. The energy remained high following the victories as Wilson hilariously took part in an online banter with teammate Sydney Colson. Wilson's post showed support for her South Carolina Gamecocks.
The Aces center pointed out her alma mater's impressive win over Kentucky in college football by posting the 31-6 final score and captioned it "Love when the cocks are up!" The term used is a shortcut for "Gamecocks" but Colson joined in and poked fun at her by replying "Some things a lady just wouldn't say smh."
Wilson replied:
"I know you not talking about being lady like," Wilson posted.
This season, A'ja Wilson is averaging 27.3 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game. Led by her MVP-caliber season, Las Vegas is in fourth place in the WNBA standings.
A'ja Wilson's teammate highlighted the team's resiliency in Friday's win against the Connecticut Sun
Despite winning four straight games, the Aces have not looked invincible this season. From defensive breakdowns to miscommunication on the floor and dealing with injuries, the team is far from how they looked last year.
However, the Becky Hammon-coached squad has managed to remain competitive amid all the adversities faced. They continue to ride the ship with just a few days before the WNBA Playoffs commence. Still, the Aces are ranked second offensively and fifth defensively.
Post-Olympic break, the team went on a 2-4 stretch that further increased their sense of urgency. They entered this season with a three-peat in mind and have responded with a four-game winning streak to get them back on track.
Their fourth consecutive win came against the Connecticut Sun, who are one of the best defensive units in the WNBA this season. It wasn't a pretty game, but A'ja Wilson and the Aces handled their business.
After the win, Kelsey Plum spoke highly of the team's resilience to stay the course and grind out victories in whichever way possible.
"It didn't start great at all," Plum said per Las Vegas-Review Journal's Callie Lawson-Freeman. "But this year, we really haven't had a ton of things go our way, so it's kind of cool to see it fall the way it did, especially late [in the] game. It's really hard. ... People don't really understand how hard it is. So I'm just proud we kept battling."
Securing their third-straight championship won't be easy as several teams have a strong chance of winning the title as well.
