A'ja Wilson chokes up during presser following stellar performance vs Liberty: "I break this game down piece by piece"

A'ja Wilson chokes up during presser following stellar performance vs Liberty.

A'ja Wilson got a little emotional after the Las Vegas Aces' loss to the New York Liberty on Saturday. Wilson had another stellar outing for the back-to-back WNBA champions, but it was not enough to prevent their sixth loss of the season. The Liberty, on the other hand, have now won eight games in a row.

In her postgame interview, Wilson had a passionate speech about taking accountability for what's happening with the Aces. She knows that they have a target on their backs for being the defending champions, so it's hard to win every game.

"I want to be the best person, I want to be the best teammate, 'cause that's how I get the best out of my team. So when it comes to wins and losses, when I tell you I break this game down piece by piece, it's because I don't want to be great for you guys. But I want to be great for my team, I want to be great for this franchise. And it is hard as sh*t, it is hard as sh*t 'cause there's a ton of people who want to break you down," Wilson said.

A'ja Wilson finished with 21 points, nine rebounds and three assists on 9-for-16 shooting from the field and 3-for-4 from the free throw line. Kelsey Plum had 22 points, two rebounds and three assists, but it was not enough to prevent the 90-82 loss.

Alysha Clark had 13 points, three rebounds and three assists, while Jackie Young struggled with just 10 points on 4-for-12 shooting. Young was also in foul trouble, but the main reason why the Aces lost to the New York Liberty was former MVP Jonquel Jones.

Jones had a career-high 34 points with eight rebounds to the Liberty to their eighth straight victory. Sabrina Ionescu added a double-double of 15 points and 12 assists, while reigning MVP Breanna Stewart contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds.

A'ja Wilson is not just looking to win her third straight WNBA championship with the Las Vegas Aces this season. Wilson is also the favorite to win the MVP award over Alyssa Thomas and Breanna Stewart. However, it's not the only accolade she's going to win if she can't stop scoring a lot of points.

Wilson is the current leader in points per game with 28.0 points in 12 games. She has not won a scoring title in her career, so if she keeps it up, it's another accolade to her growing resume.

In addition to being a two-time WNBA champion and two-time MVP, Wilson is also a one-time WNBA Finals MVP, two-time Defensive Player of the Year, a former Rookie of the Year and a five-time All-Star.
