Las Vegas Aces superstar and reigning WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson reacted to Cherelle Griner's 2024 recap post on Instagram. Cherelle is the wife of Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner, with the couple welcoming their son Bash in July.
In an Instagram post, Cherelle shared a bunch of images she called a "picture capsule" of the past 365 days. She also couldn't wait for what's in store for her family in 2025. Some of the photos in the capsule include pictures of the family, their baby and her pregnancy journey.
"2024 in picture capsule … Ready to experience the joys of 2025! Happy New Year," Cherelle wrote.
One of several basketball personalities to comment on Cherelle Griner's post was three-time WNBA MVP and two-time WNBA champion A'ja Wilson. She dropped a reaction, specifically for the 10th slide, which showed Cherelle getting hit by a medicine ball in the jaw.
Brittney Griner's wife was working out in the gym when she decided to throw the medicine ball to the ground. She didn't anticipate the bounce of the ball as it hit her right in the face.
"Slide tennnnn," Wilson commented.
Wilson was one of many who supported Cherelle when Brittney was detained in Russia. The WNBA rallied around her until the Phoenix Mercury star was released via a prisoner swap in December 2022. Brittney would return to the WNBA and was named an All-Star in her first season back.
Brittney and Wilson were teammates for Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning a gold medal. They were also a part of the team that won the 2020 Tokyo Olympics at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
NBA champion makes bold claim about A'ja Wilson
A'ja Wilson is enjoying her offseason, resting for next year and even out of the spotlight. However, Wilson's name was mentioned by one-time NBA champion Jeff Teague on his popular 520 Club podcast.
Teague and his co-hosts went viral before the end of 2024 when they had comedian Charleston White on their show. White made some controversial remarks about WNBA players that might get Teague and his podcast in trouble with the league.
Well, they can't stop discussing controversy, this time the debate being about whether A'ja Wilson can beat a male player one-on-one. Teague shut down quickly, claiming that the three-time WNBA MVP won't have any chance against an NBA bench player or even someone from college.
"Hell no," Teague said. "Do you all know n***as on the bench average 40 in college, 20 in college? N***as really gonna beat your a**. She not beating a n***a in G-League. She not beating a n***a in college."
Wilson is considered the best player in the WNBA today, and possibly the world. Steph Curry beat Sabrina Ionescu in a 3-point shootout, so maybe Wilson could challenge a player in a similar setting.
