American athletes stick together, even those who don't play the same sport, as was evident when Las Vegas Aces superstar A'Ja Wilson took to Instagram on Friday. Wilson voiced her support for Coco Gauff, who's dominating at the Australian Open.
Gauff posted a series of pictures of her latest performance in the tournament, and it didn't take long before Wilson took notice.
"HER," the WNBA legend wrote with a white heart emoji.
Gauff, like Wilson, didn't have much trouble overpowering her opposition, defeating Leylah Fernandez in two sets to storm her way into the fourth round of the competition. Gauff is now on an incredible streak, winning eight matches in a row, and is undefeated in 2025.
A'ja Wilson's sneaker release to lead the way in 2025
Wilson has laid the blueprint for the most dominant player in the WNBA. Now, she's looking to find that same kind of success off the court. According to Boardroom insider Nick DePaula, Wilson is set to follow Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu's steps in the sneakers game, with her new pair set to debut at some point this year:
"With the momentum gained from the likes of Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu, I foresee 2025 as the breakthrough year for women’s signature shoes, solidifying their place in the basketball landscape.
"The launch calendar for the next 18 months is packed with talented athletes like Stewie, Sabrina, A'ja Wilson, Angel Reese, and Caitlin Clark," wrote DePaula.
More than that, DePaula believes that, just like with Ionescu's signature sneaker, even dozens of NBA players will be wearing them in the upcoming campaign. Needless to say, that's a huge boost and step for women's basketball. Not only are they getting the fans' praise and recognition after so many years of struggles, but they're also finally getting equal opportunities in the business part of the game.
Wilson has established herself as a first-ballot Hall of Famer already, and it's hard to establish a parallelism between her and a current NBA player. As such, it only makes sense that she also becomes a big player in the sneaker game.
