Former WNBA journeyman Danielle Robinson announced her retirement on Wednesday, ending a 12-year professional women’s basketball career. Robinson was once an All-Star for three seasons and was named to the All-WNBA Second Team in 2014. She was also the assists leader in 2013.
Robinson played her last game in the 2023 season for the Atlanta Dream. After a year of not much basketball for her, she decided to announce her retirement in a lengthy Instagram post.
“After 14 incredible years in the WNBA, I’m officially announcing my retirement from basketball. From dreaming about the Houston Comets as a young girl to living my dream in the W, this journey has been truly amazing,” she wrote.
Danielle Robinson included photos from her high school and collegiate days with Oklahoma State. She also added pictures from the early parts of her career with the San Antonio Stars.
Playing for six teams in her career, Robinson has made great friends around the league as she earned respect from other players for her tenacity as a two-way point guard.
Star players such as Las Vegas Aces center A’Ja Wilson and LA Sparks’ Lexie Brown led tributes on Robinson’s retirement post.

“Drob 🥹🥹🥹 so grateful for you!! Congrats on an amazing career. So happy I was a small part of it! ❤️❤️,” Brown posted.
Brown and Robinson played together during their stint with the Minnesota Lynx in 2019. Meanwhile, Wilson, who won the 2024 WNBA MVP award, was teammates with Robinson in 2020 with the Aces.
Danielle Robinson also thanked her former teammates and coaches for being part of her long WNBA career in her Instagram post.
“To my coaches: thank you for shaping both the player and person I am today. To my teammates: you’ve become sisters and family. And to all the support staff, medical teams, and arena personnel: your dedication made this journey possible,” she wrote.

Other former teammates, such as Aces guard Jackie Young, Indiana Fever’s NaLyssa Smith and Connecticut Sun’s DeWanna Bonner, also expressed their respects to the WNBA great.
“Congrats!🫶🏾,” Young wrote.
“from watching you on the silver stars to playing with youuu!! what you’ve done has been legendary! 🫶🏾🫶🏾 S/O to the toneeeee 🤣🤣🫶🏾,” Smith wrote.
“❤️❤️❤️ Congrats D!! 🍾💫👏🏾,” Bonner said.
Danielle Robinson played 359 games in the WNBA, averaging 8.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. She struggled from deep in her career but still managed to put up a 45% clip from the field.
Robinson is now 35 and expected to remain within basketball circles after retirement.
