A'ja Wilson was one of the WNBA stars reacting to the gruesome wildfires ravaging Los Angeles. The Las Vegas Aces superstar took to Instagram stories to share an image of the aerial view of the city decimated by the fires and responded with a prayers up emoji.
The birds-eye view shows the sad state of affairs in LA with reports suggesting that more than 100,000 people have been displaced.
With South California yet to be out of danger, the local professional and college sports teams have made alternative plans regarding game schedules. The LA Rams Monday night playoff skirmish against the Minnesota Vikings was moved to Arizona. They were slated to play at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The LA Lakers home game was postponed as well.
Earlier, Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier also spoke of the fires calling it 'terrible'. In the NBA circuit, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, Lakers HC JJ Redick, and Kawhi Leonard were some of the key figures severely impacted by the wildfires.
A'ja Wilson prioritizes recovery over Unrivaled
One of the key talking points ahead of the start of Unrivaled, the 3x3 marquee tournament was Aces star A'ja Wilson missing the edition. The 3x WNBA MVP declined the offer prioritizing rest in the offseason.
"A’ja just, honestly, she likes to rest her body, she doesn't want to play year-round," said the source close to Wilson. "And she's an outlier of where, just on pure basketball, it's a 3-on-3 league, it's not a 5-on-5 league. So that's one thing. But she's really busy in the offseason. It just was not a great fit for her."
It has been a packed 2024 for Wilson as she juggled the Aces and the Team USA Olympics assignment. After winning gold in Paris in the summer, Wilson led the Aces to the playoffs but were ousted by the New York Liberty in the second round with the latter going on to win their maiden championship.
A'ja Wilson enjoyed her 2024 season with stats that were through the charts. She averaged 26.9 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game which saw her win her third MVP in five seasons. Now, all eyes will be on the superstar as he gears up to lead the Aces for another title, her third.
