A'ja Wilson has spoken out about the racial injustice faced by black women following the tragic shooting case of Sonya Massey. Wilson quoted Malcolm X to express her thoughts about racial discrimination and law enforcement violence.

"Like Malcolm X said, ‘The most disrespected person in the world is the Black woman," Wilson said (via Footwear News). "Every day you’re fighting a battle. You can wake up and the world hates you or the world loves you. Navigating that is something I’ve started to learn how to do, and I’ve done it vocally, which has really helped me. It helped me realize that I’m not by myself."

The tragic shooting of Sonya Massey on July 6 sparked national outrage. The 36-year-old mother of two had called 911 to check on a potential intruder at her property.

The officers dispatched in response found nothing after a thorough investigation of her property. They then went inside Massey's house to get her ID. However, the proceedings did not go smoothly and ended with Sonya being shot three times, with no clear justification for the shooting.

A'ja Wilson's main goal this season is to "Be Better"

A'ja Wilson has shared her main goal for the 2024 season after winning back-to-back WNBA championships and reclaiming the WNBA MVP honor last season. In an interview with PopSugar.com on Saturday, the Las Vegas Aces star discussed her objective for the current WNBA season.

"Just to be better. I always said the main goal for myself is just to be better than I was last year," Wilson said (via PopSugar). "I want people to see a different A’ja than they did last year. That’s how we continue to grow – not just for myself, but as a team as well."

So far, A'ja Wilson is in great form and is living up to her goal. She is averaging 27.2 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for the Aces this season. As the WNBA is on international break right now, Wilson is representing the USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics as part of the USA Women's National Basketball Team.
