Three-time WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson has reportedly signed a massive six-year extension with Nike, according to Shams Charania. The ESPN insider broke news on Tuesday indicating that Wilson had signed a six-year contract extension with Nike, marking one of the most lucrative shoe deals ever signed by a women's basketball player.
The news, of course, comes on the heels of Wilson and Nike, which is valued at $114 billion according to Forbes, agreeing to a signature shoe deal in May. While the shoe is set to release in 2025, Nike wasted no time in extending Wilson's contract ahead of the 2025 WNBA season.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Charania wrote:
"Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson – a three-time WNBA MVP and two-time league champion – is signing a six-year contract extension with Nike in one of the richest shoe deals for a women's basketball player, sources told ESPN."
Although she and the team came up short in their pursuit of being the second team in league history to three-peat, Wilson's status as one of the biggest players in the league can't be denied.
"It's been incredible working with Nike" - A'ja Wilson praises Nike after signature shoe announcement
In May, when Wilson joined notable athletes such as Naomi Osaka, Serena Williams and Sabrina Ionescu as a Nike signature athlete, the company announced her first signature shoe.
The announcement for the A'One featured an ad listing off Wilson's accomplishments. In addition, the brand created the OfCourseIHaveAShoe.com domain as well, which redirects to a page on Nike's site that features Wilson's apparel line and teases her signature shoe.
At the time, A'ja Wilson said:
"It's been incredible working with Nike toward a dream of having my collection, and it really is an honor to take this next step and become a Nike signature athlete.
"From my logo to the look of the shoe and the pieces throughout the collection, we've worked to make sure every detail is perfectly tuned to my game and style."
There have been no further developments on when A'ja Wilson's first signature shoe will release, however, the expectation is that it will release in the spring, just before the start of the WNBA season.
The Aces will play their first game of the 2025 WNBA season on May 17, when they face off against the New York Liberty, who are heading into the season as defending champions.
