Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson has been tearing apart the WNBA with her stunning performances. She has been incredible for the Aces since the season started and despite the 100-86 loss against the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday night, she topped the scoring charts for the night.
The two-time league MVP scored 28 points, collected eight rebounds and dished out three assists in the disappointing loss. Wilson led the Aces to an early advantage outscoring the Lynx in the first quarter. However, the Lynx came back strong for the defending champions in the next two quarters and established a lead of their own.
The Aces did fight back in the final quarter cutting the 20-point lead to 13 points points with 4:39 remaining on the clock. However, they could not trim the lead further down until late in the game. With her 28 points, Wilson upheld her historic run of scoring at least 20 points in 15 straight games.
Kelsey Plum was second to Wilson with 13 points, and she added two rebounds and four assists. However, she went just 4 of 13 from the field. The other squad members also struggled, resulting in the Aces' third straight loss this season.
A'ja Wilson's stats mesmerize USC guard JuJu Watkins
A'ja Wilson is putting up a historic run that will be remembered for ages in the WNBA. She is serving as an inspiration for all the young girls who want to follow in her footsteps and become a professional basketball player themselves.
USC Trojans star guard JuJu Watkins is one of those young talents who was mesmerized by Wilson's stellar performances in the world's best women's basketball league.
She posted an Instagram story featuring Wilson's stat sheet this season and accompanied it with a single word of praise.
"Unreal," Watkins wrote.
Watkins has been a fan of the WNBA for a long time. Not long back she had a fangirl moment for four-time league champion Tina Thompson. Now she looks to be overcome by the charm of the Las Vegas Aces' superstar. She posted another story on her official Instagram account which had a post featuring Wilson's thoughts on Team USA and their mentality going into the Paris Olympics.
Wilson remarked that she realized the team roster is different from before and she can feel a new culture emerging in women's basketball. However, she assured the fans that the standards remain the same and that they are aiming for gold this year as well.
