All-Star forward A'ja Wilson led the Las Vegas Aces to an 80-66 win against the Minnesota Lynx tonight to improve to 4-1 in the WNBA season. Wilson finished with a great double-double of 29 points and 15 rebounds, which was huge for Las Vegas.
She was also dominant on the defensive end with her four blocks and two steals. The center also finished with three assists, showing off her passing skills.
The star played 31 minutes of action and made the most of her chances on the floor. She shot 11-23 from the field tonight and Minnesota couldn't stop her. The defense couldn't do anything but foul her during the game and she had 10 attempts from the charity stripe and she made 70% of her foul shots.
The backcourt tandem of Jackie Young and Kelsey Plum had a decent contribution against the Lynx. Young also had a double-double of 19 points and 10 assists to aid the team to a win. Plum added 10 points and six assists during the night. Along with Wilson, they were the only players in double digits for the Aces.
For the Minnesota team, All-Star forward Napheesa Collier had the most points with 18. She also had a great night rebounding the basketball as she grabbed 13 boards in 34 minutes of action. Kayla McBride added 11 points and four assists while Courtney Williams and Cecilia Zandalasini had 12 points apiece.
The next game for the Aces will be against the Atlanta Dream on Friday, May 31.
How well has A'ja Wilson fared this season?
A'ja Wilson started her seventh WNBA season with a bang. In her first four games, she has not scored less than 20 points. Throughout that span, the five-time All-Star has put up 25.5 points, 12.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists. Additionally, her defense has been as solid as ever with her 2.3 blocks.
The two-time champion has shot 50% from the field, which is an impressive aspect of how efficient her shot selection has been. The star center has started to get more attempts from deep compared to last season. So far, Wilson has had 1.5 attempts from three and has made 33% of her chances. This is the second most attempts she's averaging in her career.
Wilson is showing off her improved scoring ability this season and is averaging the most points of her career. With her production, the Aces are still the team to beat in the league.
