Aaliyah Edwards is joining Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier's Unrivaled ahead of its debut season in 2025. The competition will feature the 30 best players in the WNBA, and today, Edwards became the 28th participant in the first-ever season of the competition.

The Washington Mystics player shared her excitement about this opportunity on X (formerly Twitter).

"TMUUUUU😜 @Unrivaledwbb Ready to bring more heat to Miami with the girlies👌🏾," she tweeted on Tuesday.

Edwards was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She landed in Washington to help the Mystics start a new era post-Elena Delle Donne, but the team couldn't get things going. Edwards entered the league with high expectations, but her numbers weren't the best.

In 34 games, she averaged 21.8 minutes, 7.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. She shot 49.0% from the field and 65.0%f from the free-throw line. The Mystics finished as the No. 9 seed in the standings (14-26), missing out on the playoffs by one game.

Before Edwards was announced as the 28th player in this league, Las Vegas Aces rookie Kate Martin was unveiled as the 27th member.

Unrivaled announced team names ahead of 2025 inaugural season

Before announcing the arrivals of Kate Martin and Aaliyah Edwards, Unrivaled unveiled the names of its teams. Five teams will compete for the first-ever Unrivaled championship:

  • Laces Basketball Club
  • Lunar Owls Basketball Club
  • Mist Basketball Club
  • Phantom Basketball Club
  • Rose Basketball Club
  • Vinyl Basketball Club

Every team will have five players, with three starting and two being reserves. They will play a 3-on-3 format on a shortened 70-foot court.

Who will join Unrivaled after Aaliyah Edwards?

After announcing Aaliyah Edwards' arrival, there are only two spots left to fill for the league. Napheesa Collier hinted they would announce a couple of rookies in mid-October and even left the door open for Caitlin Clark.

"I think we might have a couple more rookies in there," Collier said. "That might be a hint. I find out when you guys find out which players are getting announced."

This is an exciting project, and if they get Clark, its stock will go through the roof.
