Aaliyah Edwards took responsibility of Washington Mystics’ recent loss against Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever on June 7. Edwards, the 6th overall pick of the 2024 WNBA draft, took the court for her second game against another top prospect from her draft class, number one pick Caitlin Clark, against the Fever.

This was after the Mystics had earlier been defeated by Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese’s Chicago Sky. While the latest match ended 85-83 following arguably Clark’s best performance till date, Edwards and company ran out of steam towards the end in front of a packed 20,000-odd crowd at the Capital One Arena.

Aaliyah Edwards had a chance to close down the gap with 1:37 left on the clock. She received two free throws, but could only convert one. She effectively took blame for the loss on X, stating:

“S/O to @mystics fans. Y'all said you would pull up, and you did. We appreciate you more than you know,...I needed to make those free throws. Period."
#NoExcuses #toughone”

Aaliyah Edwards finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds, her second double-double of the season thus far.

The Mystics have a record of 0-11 so far and will be looking to secure their first victory of the season in the game against New York Liberty on June 9.

The Mystics had a fair chance of getting their first win of the campaign and were in contention to win right till the very end. Clark finished with 30 points, matching her previous season-best, which came in a loss against Cameron Brink’s LA Sparks.

Caitlin Clark had seven three-pointers on the night off 13 attempts. She also produced eight rebounds, six assists and only had two two-point attempts on the night.

The Fever, like the Mystics, have also struggled to produce wins thus far, and have a 3-9 record. However, Clark herself has enjoyed a healthy campaign, averaging 16.3 points, 6.3 assists and 5.3 rebounds.
