The Chicago Sky are campaigning for their star rookie Angel Reese to win at least four end-of-the-season awards. Fans expressed varying opinions on social media, including some who were unconvinced.
In a campaign poster put up on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday, the Sky claimed that Reese, the seventh overall pick in this year's WNBA draft, deserves to get the Rookie of the Year award.
It also said that she deserves spots in the All-Rookie, All-Defensive and All-WNBA teams on the strength of season averages of 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals.
While WNBA fans are convinced that Angel Reese had an eventful rookie season, many, though, were not completely sold that she's deserving of all the accolades her team is pushing for.
Below are what some fans wrote on the comments section of the Sky post. One fan firmly believed that what Chicago is gunning for their roookie is a stretch, saying:
"Admin smokes b*** crack."
"'You gat jokes,' another user chimed in."
"'[Laughing emojis] goddamm the sky a bigger troll than me,' still another from a fan wrote."
Some comments. meanwhile, challenged the Sky to elaborate on their case.
"'Lol what ten players was she better then? I'm intrigued,' one of the comments read."
"'Today in making s**t up,' a fan laid down."
"'We lying now?' a user dared to ask."
Then there were some who tried to make sense of what the Sky were claiming and threw in their own takes.
"One fan saw her as a lock for the all-rookie squad, saying. 'Well, All Rookie team is probably a lock given she was one of few Rookies that got any material playing time. So you have that going for you.'"
"'Not Rookie of the Year; YES All-Rookie Team; Yes All-Defensive Team; Maybe 2nd All-WNBA, this one will be a tough fight,' another user shared.
Unfortunately, Angel Reese saw her rookie season come to an abrupt end after going down with a reported wrist injury. Overall, she played 34 games and averaged 33 minutes of play for the Sky (13-26), who are on the verge of missing the playoffs for the first time in six years.
