Team USA's women's team kicked off their 2024 Paris Olympics campaign with a dominant win over Japan's women's national team in a 102-86 rout.

Team USA was led by A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart, who combined for 46 points in an impressive showing for the United States women's team that featured plenty of highlights.

One of these highlights came from 21-year WNBA vet Diana Taurasi, who went viral on social media for smiling mid-layup while hugging a defender.

Here's a look at some of the reactions from fans on X/Twitter:

"Old lady gonna have fun her last Olympics," a fan commented.

More reactions followed from fans in the comments:

"Definitely an offensive foul!," one fan said.
"She is so wrong for that," another fan added.
"Gave that girl a hug," another fan said.

Team USA looked impressive in their first contest of the 2024 Olympics, shooting 54 percent from the field despite struggling from 3-point range, making just four of 20 attempts. The United States also had five players score in double figures, limiting Japan to just three.

Incredibly, Team USA's big win over Japan makes it 56 consecutive wins dating back to the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

Phoenix Mercury's Diana Taurasi is looking to win her sixth Olympic gold medal in Paris in what will be her sixth and final Olympic Games.

Team USA to play Belgium in next Olympic contest

After recording their first win of the Olympics, Team USA will move on to their next contest where they will play Belgium on Aug. 1.

Team USA will have to shoot better from behind the arc down the stretch of the Olympics, but were able to impose their will against Japan despite failing to sink their shots from deep.

Stewart and Wilson will look to build on their solid individual performances from the first game and carry that momentum ahead of Belgium and Germany to close out the group stage of play.

Stewart finished with 22 points, shooting an efficient 73 percent from the field, while Wilson looked dominant in a 24-point, 13-rebound double-double performance, adding four assists and four blocks.

The wing pair looks to lead Team USA to three straight wins in the group stage to advance for a shot at their eighth-straight gold medal finish.
