Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston took a short break from her CBB analyst job for NBC Sports to watch the South Carolina Gamecocks in Texas on Sunday. Boston was hyped after Gamecocks forward Ashlyn Watkins threw down a monster slam in the first quarter against the TCU Horned Frogs.
In a replay of the dunk shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, a fan noticed how excited Boston was on the sidelines. She was so animated that the Fever star even emulated the slam before it even happened.
Watkins is known for her hops and has recorded one in each of her first three seasons in South Carolina. She finished the game with six points, two rebounds and a steal off the bench.
Aliyah Boston responded to the fan and explained why she was hyped up courtside jumping like crazy.
"Lmaooo I'm crying. I was too hyped," Boston tweeted.
Boston is a product of South Carolina, playing for the Gamecocks from 2019 to 2023. She led them to an NCAA championship in her junior year before declaring for the WNBA Draft after her fourth season. She was taken first overall by the Indiana Fever and won the 2023 Rookie of the Year award.
The Fever star earned a degree in communications at South Carolina and quickly put it to good use after her rookie campaign in the WNBA. She always wanted to work in broadcasting and was promptly hired by NBC Universal last year to serve as a women's college basketball analyst for the Big Ten.
"So, I did mass comm as a whole, which I actually really enjoyed, because I got to do a little bit of everything," Boston said to the Gamecocks newsletter in 2023. "(My major) taught me the research part of (communications), and it also taught me how to write, which I think is important."
Aliyah Boston returned to the broadcast booth last month along with her co-analysts Carolyn Manno and Meghan McKeown.
What will Aliyah Boston do this offseason?
In addition to her television gig as an analyst for college basketball, Aliyah Boston will be playing in the inaugural season of the Unrivaled. Boston was drafted by Vinyl BC and will be teammates with Arike Ogunbowale, Jordin Canada, Rhyne Howard, Rae Burrell and Dearica Hamby.
It's a star-studded roster considering Ogunbowale, Howard and Hamby had fantastic WNBA campaigns. Canada was limited to just 20 games due to injuries, while Burrell primarily came off the bench.
Unrivaled is a 3-on-3 basketball league co-founded by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier. They were established to give WNBA players an alternative option besides going overseas. The first season begins in January 2025 in Miami, Florida.
