Aliyah Boston and Kamilla Cardoso, two former South Carolina superstars, watched the Gamecocks’ game against TCU on Sunday. One play in the first quarter of the matchup stood out among many impressive ones.
Ashlyn Watkins’ slam against a chasing Sedona Prince created a buzz on social media. Boston reacted on her Instagram story:
“Personally I would never jump”
Cardoso reacted with fire emojis to celebrate. Monique Billings jumped in with another emoji.
Dearica Hamby added:
“Ooooop”
Connecticut Sun guard Tyasha Harris joined them:
“Shesshhhhhh”
@lukefigueira added:
“Looked like prime Lebron James”
The play developed after Watkins’ shot was swatted by Prince with 1:27 remaining in the period. TCU guard Madison Conner grabbed the rebound and raced to the Horned Frogs’ end of the court. Watkins didn't give up on the play and went after Conner, who lost the ball.
South Carolina’s backup forward secured the ball and finished the fastbreak with a dunk as Prince hopelessly tried to chase her. The slam gave the Gamecocks an 18-11 lead and the momentum in the game.
The defending champs dominated on both ends to give no chance to the Horned Frogs. South Carolina’s defense and balanced scoring led by MiLaysia Fulwiley were the keys. Ashlyn Watkins had finished with six points, but her slam earned reactions from Aliyah Boston, Kamilla Cardoso and others.
