Sports analyst Rachel DeMita let her thoughts known on Wednesday about controversial remarks made by American influencer Charleston White about the WNBA and one of its star players Angel Reese.
DeMita ripped through White’s controversial statements sexualizing women basketball players in Jeff Teague's "Club 520 Podcast."
Demita criticized White’s comments, calling for the former NBA player Teague to be careful in airing such remarks, as they can be detrimental to the fast-rising sport.
“I do understand why they had someone like Charleston White, because some people actually think he is funny, but to have him go on to these rant about the WNBA," she said.
"Some people think it is hilarious, it’s not my kind of comedy. I think it’s gross, I thought it was inappropriate and I do think that for Jeff Teague …they do have to be more careful when they have certain guests on,” DeMita said (2:24-2:33) on her YouTube channel.
While acknowledging that Teague did not comment about what White said during the show, DeMita called out Teague for not chiming in on the situation when it was happening.
“Jeff Teague did not chime in on the conversation, and he also did not actively shut it down. I don’t know why they just did not cut that part out," she added (2:34-2:43).
DeMita asked Teague to be more careful in producing shows with controversial personalities such as White.
White’s comments include asking Reese to just go to OnlyF**s, recalling a viral moment of Reese with NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, who remarked about the Chicago Sky forward playing with “little shorts” on the court.
Jeff Teague clears air on Angel Reese after podcast controversy
After the podcast controversy involving Charleston White, Jeff Teague addressed the situation, clearing the air on their relationship with Reese.
Teague emphasized that Reese is like a little sibling to them, especially as they are both podcasters and also basketball players.
“We had great times with Angel Reese … She's cool people. We don't even look at her like that. We see her as a little sister, a little homie," Teague said (5:06-5:11) in the following episode after White’s statements.
Teague accepted the remarks were inappropriate, but because it aired live on their channel, it did not go through rigorous editing, which could not have allowed it to air.
Reese has become one of the most recognizable stars in the WNBA, finishing second in the Rookie of the Year voting in 2024, behind Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark. She also became an All-Star but failed to lead her team to the playoffs.
